Thermaire Investments (Pty) Limited trading as Improvair Environmental Solutions (IES) is one of the oldest Airconditioning companies in South Africa. The company was started in 1945 by Mr. Robert J. S. Caldwell who began airconditioning hospital ships for the British Admiralty in the Port Elizabeth harbour.
Since then the company has been through a number of name and ownership changes, leading up to the latest chapter in the history when Murray & Roberts sold the business to black businessmen in 2005. The change was necessitated as a result of Government’s initial push to empower Previously Disadvantaged Individuals. This requirement has since become more regulated with the BEE charters and the need for Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE). The company fully recognizes the need for BBBEE and is continually striving towards the level 1 grading.
IES has always been at the forefront of airconditioning technology and continuously strives to meet and surpass customer service expectations. The company prides itself on fair labour practice, honesty and integrity, using good quality equipment to meet specification, quality control and having contracts of substance.
The key members of the management team have a combined total in excess of 180 years service with the company. The team is headed by Mr. J. U. Hargovan who joined the company in 1995 as the Group Financial Director and eventually made the transition to general management as Managing Director of the Group in 2000.
IES operates throughout Southern Africa through branches located in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Our track record, as can be expected, is second to none with projects in comfort cooling and industrial applications.
In the Gauteng region The Groups’ businesses are ISO9001 rated, certified by the SABS. IES is also graded by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at a level 7ME.
