A Tri-Generation System for MTN Newlands

Dec 13, 2015

December 2015, Newlands, Johannesburg – Following the successful implementation of the Tri-generation system at MTN Doornfontein, MTN is proceeding with the installation of two off-gas powered generators to provide power to the MTN Newlands site.

Following the successful implementation of the Tri-generation system at MTN Doornfontein, MTN is proceeding with the installation of two off-gas powered generators to provide power to the MTN Newlands site.
Coupled with this, IES will be installing a tri-generation system, consisting of a LG Absorption Chiller and two Evapco Hybrid Cooling towers to utilise the hot water generated by the gas powered generators to provide chilled water to the site, thus making maximum use of the available energy -which would otherwise be wasted. This provides the client with maximum savings in regards to the running costs in the long term.
This installation will once again use HDPE piping as an alternative to the traditional steel piping, supplying water to plate heat exchangers which will facilitate the export of the Tri generation chilled water to the existing building, and reduce the need to run power hungry mechanical chillers.

The project, with an estimated value of R 13.3 million, will commence in January 2016 and is expected to be complete by December 2016.
